ICF Update — March 1st

Developer Adoption Working Group; Interchain Accounts; Solo Machine vs. Proof of Authority; Off-chain Oracle Module; Chain Name Service; Atlas Node Discovery; Welcome Charly Fei! Alan Dart Extension; Cosmos SDK Audit; Cosmjs maintenance; Thank you Jae Kwon;

It’s that time again, for the Interchain Foundation’s bi-weekly update. We’re a few days late, but will aim to release these every other Thursday as consistently as possible.

In the intervening two weeks the most significant news is without a doubt the Stargate Launch, which includes IBC and represents the culmination of years of work by the entire Cosmos ecosystem. Following the upgrade, Ethan Buchman and Sam Hart published a blog post, The Cosmos Hub is a Port City, describing a vision for what’s next for the Cosmos Hub.

If any of the updates are especially relevant to what you are working on, feel free to drop us a line at hello@interchain.io.

If you’re interested in applying for funding, take a look at our process, our request for proposals and submit at apply.interchain.io by May 14th for consideration in Q2 of 2021.

If you missed the last update, check it out at ICF Update — Feb 11th.

Developer Adoption Working Group

B9Lab began a developer adoption working group, bringing together team members from Tendermint Team, Interchain GmbH, Informal, Regen, and Confio to discuss better onboarding practices for various users of Cosmos technology, documentation efforts, and cross-team coordination.

Interchain Accounts

Interchain GmbH’s new employee, Sean King, gave a presentation on Interchain Accounts, originally developed by the Chainapsis team, for the UX Working Group. Sean and Billy will be getting Interchain accounts to production readiness, aiming to deploy this module on the Hub later this quarter. Interestingly, the Confio team created a prototype of what they’re calling ibc-reflect, which may provide similar functionality to CosmWasm zones.

Solo Machine vs. Proof of Authority

Zaki Manian, Jack Zampolin, Billy Rennekamp, Federico Kunze Küllmer,
and Marko Baricevic participated in an internal debate on the merits of Proof of Authority chains vs IBC Solo Machines, both of which can be used by fiat stablecoin or wrapped asset issuers to transact via IBC directly.

Off-chain Oracle Module

Slava from Relevant has completed an alpha version of an off-chain oracle module. He’ll now be adding tests, documentation, and a few bonus features including delegation of oracle validation and plugable vote tally functionality.

Chain Name Service

Tendermint Team is continuing to work on the initial spec and implementation of the Chain Name Service module for the Cosmos Hub. Expect a governance proposal in the coming weeks where ATOM holders can give feedback and signal their support of this effort.

Atlas Node Discovery

Fission Labs is putting the finishing touches on a node discovery feature for Atlas which crawls for validator RPC endpoints. This will be extremely valuable for interchain workflows in conjunction with the Chain Name Registry.

Welcome Charly Fei!

Charly Fei will be joining the Interchain GmbH team to work on Cosmos SDK application development, as well as participating in funding program administration.

Alan Dart Extension

Riccardo Montagnin will receive an extension to his original grant for developing the Alan Dart mobile client library. This extension will

Cosmos SDK Audit

Crypto.com and the ICF jointly funded NCCGroup to conduct a time-bound audit of the Cosmos SDK’s base app in anticipation of Crypto.com chain launch later this quarter.

Cosmjs maintenance

Confio received a grant for continued maintenance of cosmjs for the remainder of the year. This will include further stabilizing the library and adding a limited number of features in response to community demand.

Thank you Jae Kwon

Finally, everyone at the Interchain Foundation would like to give their sincere thanks to Jae Kwon, who announced he would be stepping down from his roles at the Interchain Foundation and Tendermint Team in order to focus on a new Golang-based smart contract system for Cosmos project, Gno.

That’s all for for this bi-weekly news. Until next time find us surfing the Interchain.
